Moral Grandstanding

Did America get enough of it in 2023? The kind of moral "hey look at me" ethic, drawing attention to causes and issues that sanctimonious types love to publicly cheer about, praising each other and themselves for their great work.

Defunding police departments across the country, what a sensational idea! Let's call it a social experiment. Let's try even more: we'll decriminalize drugs, and public drug use, that's what we will call progress!

We've already allowed sidewalk tents, legalized vagrancy, squatters' rights, and secondary status for businesses affected, or residents endangered. Let's allow- for three years now- anyone into the US who can get here. That includes the next 9-11 terrorists, and literally thousands of cartel human mules smuggling in drugs and guns. These policies are all part of the new way of thinking, showing compassion, tolerance, and forgiveness to those who break laws, or harm others. We're also reforming criminal investigating, prosecuting, and incarceration policy. The high ground at stake involves which political party deserves your vote, because they're the kindest.

Let's go beyond the legal world. Let's start teaching our white students that they are all racists, intrinsically, that it's essential that they admit it, and truly understand their own privilege. Let's teach students of color that they're all victims, intrinsically, and it's essential to demand or expect more, to rectify the impoverishment of the past. All of this somehow made sense to enough voters in 2020 to prevail. Have these policies been successful?

Have we had enough moral preaching by those who monitor poll numbers? Is White Guilt stronger than gravity, deeper than the Mariana Trench, and more influential than all social media? It would appear so, and the moral Munchausens have more experiments in the pipeline, more tinkering with the already fragile, eroding safety net we affectionately call our modern society.
