"You do you, I'll do me." It could be the true mantra of our age, the slogan of a culture in serious moral free fall, in social disarray.
It's how many Americans self-define, and too often justify an indulgent style that values higher their own rights over others. We are encouraged to disregard courtesy, demote empathy, and leave consideration to an afterthought, or simply no concerns at all except an entitled right to free will.
We're taught that asserting individuality is primary, ignore any boundaries of others. So, here we are, 2023, crudely descended with profanity in the mainstream, OnlyFans can make you millions, but no one cares that children are bored, elders are lonely, and homeless encampments are swelling.
Is it possible that "Me first, then me.", as we are today, may be a self-destructive chant?
